Samuel Clark
Family Organization

The Samuel Clark Family Organization (SCFO) is an ancestral family organization whose ancestors lived in Hertfordshire, England during the 1400's. The primary purpose of the SCFO is to research and document the ancestors of Samuel Clark (1798-1885), a Mormon Pioneer--with particular emphasis on identifying his English ancestors and relatives.
During the 1600's a number of Clarke and Brough families resided in the same areas of Hertfordshire, England. For example, a Thomas Clarke (who was the son of George Clarke and Elizabeth Bristowe) was christened on 7 October 1603 in Benington, Hertfordshire; and a Francisca Brough (who was the daughter of Guilielmi Brough) was christened on 7 April 1634 in Benington, Hertfordshire.
In July 2016 some of the descendants of Samuel Clark requested that the Research Committee of the Brough Family Organization (BFO) help the SCFO conduct research on some of the Clarke families that resided in Hertfordshire, England, from the 1400's to the 1600's. The latest BFO and SCFO research on the ancestors and relatives of Samuel Clark has been posted on this webpage as a courtesy to his living descendants.
The present volunteer officers of the SCFO include: Sarah Adelaide Weaver Cowles, President; Ethel Mickelson Brough, Vice-President; and R. Clayton Brough, Genealogist.

The Coat of Arms of Clarke of Hertfordshire, England

In July 2016, some of the descendants of Samuel Clark (1798-1885), a Mormon Pioneer, asked that a modern version be produced of the Clarke Coat of Arms that is mentioned on the Clarke pedigree in The Visitations of Hertfordshire of 1572 and 1634 (by the Harleian Society of London, Volume 22, 1886, page 41) and which is described (below) as follows: Arms.–Argent, on a fess between three crosses patee Sable three plates. Crest.–A cross patee Or between two wings Azure.
In August 2016, Julie Rebecca Thorup, a graphic-artist living in Utah, created a professional looking Clarke Coat of Arms.
Using well-known Clarke-related documents and heraldic symbols, Julie Thorup incorporated historic Clarke family art and designs into her drawing (below), which resulted in a Clarke Coat of Arms that was true to its heraldic past while presenting a new and vibrant display of Clarke family heritage and tradition.
Julie Thorup’s 2016 artistic drawing of the Clarke Coat of Arms is freely available (as a PDF file) to all Clarke family members who wish to use it.

Family Organization

The Ezra Thompson Clark Family Organization is an ancestral family organization whose ancestors lived in the eastern United States during the 1600s and 1700s and in England during the 1400s and 1500s. Ezra Thompson Clark (1823-1901) was a Mormon Pioneer and his numerous descendants make up the Ezra Thompson Clark Family Organization.
     In July 2016
genealogists of the Brough Family Organization (BFO) determined that Ezra Clark's ancestry most likely went back to Hertfordshire, England and that he was probably a distance cousin of Samuel Clark (1798-1885) who is mentioned above.
The genealogy and research findings of the BFO on Ezra Thompson Clark and his American and English ancestors are listed in the following database:
